Developed in Czechoslovakia in the late 1950’s, the vz 58 shares the same 7.62 X 39mm cartridges as the AK47. Although the vz 58 looks very similar, it operates very differently than the AK47, and thus it has completely different internal parts. While the vz 58 is still a standard issue service rifle in the Slovakian military, it has largely been replaced by other militaries which previously used it as standard issue. Collectors, hobbyists, and hunters all over the world are the largest present day procurers of the rifle.
